- Golden State Valkyries keep rolling with fifth consecutive win
The Golden State Valkyries returned home to Ballhalla and were welcomed by their 40th straight sellout . They then won their fifth consecutive game in a dominant outing, beating the Chicago Sky, 91-71, on Aug. 12.
The Valkyries are cooking, having gone 14-2 in their last 16 games.

They were able to get the win Wednesday despite being shorthanded on the floor. Starting center Kiah Stokes and Sixth Player of the Year candidate Janelle Salaun were both out against the Sky.
The Valkyries were led by Tiffany Hayes with 22 points off the bench. Kaila Charles was second with 15 points and added five rebounds. Gabby Williams and Veronica Burton each had 13 points.
The defensive-minded bunch picked 15 steals, tying a franchise record, and scored 25 points off of Chicago's turnovers.
"I think our communication has really stepped up," Hayes said in a postgame interview . "Being there for each other. We're always like, we got to be in the shifts. We got to be there to help each other. Low man's got to be there. You know, we have a bunch of principles that we have to stick to that's really Valkyries basketball, and I think we did a lot of that tonight for most of the game."

The Valkyries now have the second-best record in the WNBA at 24-9 and continually show the world they're a drastically improved team.
Last year, they were a captivating expansion team. They surprised many by finishing fourth in the WNBA Western Conference at 23-21, breaking a league record for most wins by an expansion team.
This season, they've already surpassed their previous win total, getting their 24th victory against the Sky.
And they are getting better.
They are becoming more familiar and comfortable with each other. That's what continuity does for your club. The Valkyries practically have the same team as last year, bringing back a league-high nine players.

"We just know our roles," Hayes said. "Whether you're starting that game, whether you're coming off the bench, you're with your unit, and I think we've really honed in to who our unit is, who we're out there with and we just know how to move with each other."

"We know each other's tendencies now," she added. "And we're still learning each other. We're getting better at it. But at the end of the day, I think we're ahead of the game right now. So it just looks good for us right now."
As the season winds down, with a little more than a month left, Golden State is clicking and it looks like it will be a postseason threat for any team it faces.
And with 11 games remaining on the schedule, the Valkyries are hunting for more wins to overtake the best record in the league. It will be tough, but not impossible.
Ahead of the Valkyries are the league-best Minnesota Lynx with a 28-7 record, three games ahead of Golden State.

The Lynx have won four consecutive games against the Valkyries, including two 2026 regular-season matchups (Minnesota swept Golden State in the 2025 playoffs).
If the Valkyries want to overthrow the Lynx for the best record in the WNBA, they will have their chances as they see them twice more in the regular season − Aug. 19 at home, and five days later in Minnesota.
Before then, the Valkyries will have to keep their winning streak alive in their next game, when they face the Dallas Wings on Aug. 17.
