LeBron James is a newcomer to the game of golf, picking up the sport in the summer of 2025.

After taking up the new sport, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer has quickly become obsessed, talking about it frequently in his post-game press conference after his games with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He even said once that he doesn’t watch much NBA anymore and is instead focused on the PGA Tour and YouTube golf.

Those comments led to James being widely criticised by fans, and he recently posted a video of his golf swing to social media, which fans also jumped on.

Fans critique LeBron James’ golf swing

After James posted the video of his swing to his social media, fans immediately jumped on it. One fan posted to X: “Wait, he posted that on his own account???”.

Another said that this factors into his NBA GOAT debate with Michael Jordan, who is an extremely good golfer: “…one more thing Jordan is better at.”

Some fans offered some constructive criticism for James: “Stance looks narrow, weak grip, face is a bit more closed than I like, way too fast of a back swing, short backswing, left arm is a train wreck, zero weight transfer.”

Another fan posted: “Form is not bad, just looks a little stiff. “He took forever to line up and hit the ball though”. The consensus from some fans was that it just needed some minor tweaks: “Not bad bro just needs to slow down his back swing and keep head more down.”

Some criticisms were more basketball-based than golf-focused, as one fan questioned whether James should be playing at all. He missed the opening stages of the season with sciatica, causing one fan to post: “Idk if someone with sciatica should be golfing mid season.”

Another took a jab at James’ tendency to flop during games, adding: “He should probably stick to flop shots.”

Other fans took issue with James’ attire. Golf is a sport steeped in tradition, especially with the clothing you wear while playing. That’s why James’ t-shirt, shorts and cap, rubbed fans the wrong way.

One fan said, “just as bad as his outfit…”, and another added, “This isn’t a Lebron James issue, but I hate the fact that people who are getting into golf aren’t respecting the culture of golf. It’s not a huge deal to wear a collared shirt and nicer pants/ shorts. I see it every weekend with teenagers.”

What is LeBron James’ golf handicap?

James may be the King of the hardwood, but on the golf course, he is still very much a rookie. While he has long been a casual fan of the sport, James officially declared himself addicted to golf in mid-2025, sharing clips of his journey that quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons.

James once said that his handicap was around the 20-25 mark, not bad for a beginner, but nowhere near the likes of Stephen Curry, who played in a PGA Tour event.

However, his inner circle has optimistically pegged him closer to a 14 or 15, though James insists he needs more recorded rounds to be sure.

Despite the mechanical flaws, his sheer raw power allows him to drive the ball significant distances, even with a half-swing technique.

Ultimately, LeBron views golf as a fresh new challenge and a humbling escape from the pressures of the NBA.

He’s traded watching basketball highlights for YouTube golf personalities like the Bryan Bros and Bryson DeChambeau, proving that even the greatest athletes aren’t immune to the obsessive lure of the links.
