Harry Maguire could be just one of several regulars in their final season at Manchester United.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insiderthat the Man United hierarchy will be eyeing a lower wage bill next summer.
Supporters at Old Trafford have been eager for fresh investment for multiple seasons now, with disappointment leading to anger at the owners.
Even Michael Carrick appears to be safe from fan criticism, despite the Red Devils floating above the Premier League relegation zone and his job being on the line.
Most of the talk recently has been around Bruno Fernandes' future, and understandably so, but he isn't the only starter who may need replacing.
Fans have made their feelings clear about the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot and Mason Mount, but four main players could lead the mass exodus.
Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw could soon leave Man United
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes four key players from the current squad could be set to leave Man United next summer.
"The reality for United is that probably, if you get to the end of the season and you've got [Bruno] Fernandes being 33 or whatever..." he said.
"You've got Luke Shaw probably leaving, you've got [Harry] Maguire probably leaving, you've got [Marcus] Rashford probably leaving, all of this is great for the wage bill in terms of bringing the wage bill down.
"But it also means you've got a whole load of players that you need to replace, and United can try and book the trend.
"But the reality is the best players are now £100 million. You can choose not to play in that market, but ultimately you have to be absolutely exceptional in terms of your recruitment to be able to succeed."
Stefan Borson reveals how much Man United will have to spend in next two transfer windows Sources: Man United plan to let Bruno Fernandes go What do Man United have planned for these players?
The latest from Football Insideron Fernandes' future is that the owners plan to let him go at the end of the season, with his contract running out.
New contract talks had been in the works, but after his recent outburst at Carrick, that no longer appears to be an option for the Red Devils.
As for Maguire, there had been rumours of an extension during the summer, but that has gone cold. And the same goes for Shaw.
It is clear that, even if these players do sign new deals, they need to be replaced. But that seems like an impossible task under these owners.
