The Green Bay Packers signed Devonte Wyatt to a three-year, $57 million contract extension with a $20 million signing bonus in July. At the time of the signing, Wyatt was recovering from a season-ending fractured fibula and torn ligament in his ankle, sustained on Thanksgiving. Although he was medically cleared in July, he was listed on the injury report with an ankle injury in Weeks 1 and 2 before briefly exiting in Weeks 4 and 7 with an ankle issue. The former first-round pick was estimated as a non-participant on Monday and upgraded to limited participation on Tuesday.
Devonte Wyatt has had a very slow start to the season, and early returns on his extension have not looked promising. He has struggled against the run and has not been an effective pass rusher. Wyatt has 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks (both against the Bears), and one forced fumble across seven games while averaging 49% of defensive snaps.

According to NFL Pro , Devonte Wyatt has seven pressures, a 5.4% pressure rate, two turnovers caused by pressure, zero quick pressures, a 3.81-second average time to pressure, a 5.36-second average time to sack, and a 0.99-second get-off time. For comparison among defensive tackles , Jeffery Simmons has 28 pressures, Brandon Dorlus has a 15.4% pressure rate, T.J. Sanders has a 1.95-second average time to pressure, Jonathan Allen has 13 quick pressures, and Aaron Donald has a 0.87-second get-off time.
Daniel Rotman compiled an x-y graph showing defensive tackles' average time to pressure (x-value) and pressure rate (y-value). The top-right quadrant represents players who generate pressure quickly and frequently; the bottom-right quadrant shows players who are fast off the ball but generate pressure infrequently; the top-left quadrant shows players who take longer but generate pressure; and the bottom-left quadrant shows players who are slow off the ball and rarely generate pressure. Per Rotman's charting, Wyatt has a long time to pressure and a very low pressure rate.
An X account named Jrfortgang compiled an x-y graph showing defensive tackles' double-team rate against the run (x-value) and their overall run grade from PFF. The top-right quadrant represents players who have a high double-team rate and are effective run defenders; the bottom-right quadrant shows players who have a high double-team rate and are ineffective; the top-left quadrant shows players who have a low double-team rate and are effective; and the bottom-left quadrant shows players who have a low double-team rate but are ineffective. Based on his charting, Wyatt is infrequently double-teamed and is very ineffective against the run.
Is it time to panic?

Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt (95) celebrates his sack of Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff during the fourth quarter of their game Sunday, September 7, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 27-13.
Although Devonte Wyatt has had a very slow start to the season, it is too early to write him off. Wyatt has had slow stretches in the past but eventually improved. Another consideration is that he is still dealing with an ankle injury and has had a limited workload so far, averaging 49% of defensive snaps. Once he fully recovers and sees an increased workload, he should improve.
