- Green Street Who made my preseason AP All-American teams?
Oct. 16—My preseason Associated Press Top 25 women's basketball ballot wasn't the only thing that was due on Monday. I was also tasked with coming up with my preseason AP All-American first, second and third teams.
There were more than a few familiar names on my ballot. Nine of the 15 players that made it on my All-American teams happened to be returning players. But there was also some new blood on my teams.
Look no further than Illinois forward . I wrote earlier this week in my column about my key takeaways from Tuesday's open practice for the Illini women's basketball team that I felt really good about naming Wallace as a preseason All-American.
And from what I saw — and what I've been hearing coming out of Ubben Basketball Complex this summer and early fall — this could be Wallace's best season in an Illinois uniform.
Ultimately, here's how my All-American teams shook out (I bolded the names of returning All-Americans).
JuJu Watkins, Guard, Southern Cal
Jazzy Davidson, Guard, Southern Cal
Sayvia Sellers, Guard, Washington
Liv McGill, Guard, Oklahoma State
Berry Wallace, Forward, Illinois
Ava Heiden, Center, Iowa
The finalized AP preseason All-American teams from the full panel of AP voters will be released on Thursday, Oct. 22. That comes two days after the AP preseason Top 25 is revealed.
