Heading into a do-or-die AL Championship Series (ALCS) Game 6 tilt against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Cleveland Guardians need a win. Down 3-2 after the Rays won Games 4 and 5 in Cleveland, the Guardians will need to be at the top of their game to reach Game 7. To counter Tampa Bay's explosive top half of their offense, Cleveland will turn to one of their most reliable arms. Per The Athletic's Zack Meisel on X (formerly Twitter), veteran reliever Shawn Armstrong will start Game 6 on Monday night.
"Shawn Armstrong will start/open for the Guardians in Game 6 tonight," reported Meisel on Monday morning.
Armstrong started ALCS Game 4 in Cleveland, pitching a shutout first inning to get the Guardians off to a strong start. Unfortunately, the rest of the bullpen failed on Saturday, as the next five arms after Armstrong gave up runs. The 36-year-old has also pitched in Games 2 and 5, so this will be the fourth time this series he's faced off against the Rays. If Armstrong can give Cleveland the same type of start he turned in Game 4, then the Guardians will have a good chance at capturing Game 6.

After winning Games 1 and 3, the Guardians entered Game 4 with a 2-1 advantage. However, the Rays' offense came to life over the weekend. Baseball's best team in the regular season, Tampa Bay scored ten runs over Games 4 and 5 to bring a series lead back home. In front of their home fans at the Trop, the Rays would love to close Cleveland out early. The NL champion Milwaukee Brewers await either team in the World Series, fresh off sweeping the back-to-back defending champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Will Armstrong turn in one more strong start to help spark a Cleveland win Monday night? If not, the Guardians' season could end at Tropicana Field.
