Guardians’ Chase DeLauter' Continues Impressive Streak

Chase DeLauter is primarily known for his ability to hit home runs and his high average exit velocity, which was on display during his rookie season with the Cleveland Guardians .

But the reason that DeLauter is able to find so many pitches to put good swings on starts from his ability to work and put together a quality at-bat, which is exactly what he's been doing over the last few weeks.

DeLauter is currently riding a 12-game on-base streak, which goes back to April against the Houston Astros . He's logged hits in 10 of those 12 games.

It's the longest on-base streak by a Cleveland rookie since Jhonkensy Noel reached base in 13 straight games in the fall of 2024.

What's the secret behind DeLauter's impressive streak?

Well, there really isn't one. DeLauter's focus has been simply on sticking to his strategy in the batter's box and reaping the rewards that come with it.

"Just having good plan at the plate. Knowing, what I can hit,, knowing what their strengths are, and kind of combat those, too," explained DeLauter on Sunday.

"Trying to get something, of course, out over the heart of the plate, and go with those, and not swing at the balls, but that's it... That's the name of the game. You hit the pitches you can hit, hit them forward."

Cleveland's skipper has seen something similar from DeLauter from afar; it's all about his approach and game plan at the plate.

"Just quality at bats," said Stephen Vogt . "You see it from Chase, he's got the power to go opposite field, [hit a] home run. He's getting his hits, he's taking his walks. Just keep having quality at bats, day in and day out."

As DeLauter's impressive 12-game stretch continues, DeLauter continues to prove why the Guardians were so high on him as a prospect and coming into the season. He cooled off a bit after a hot start at the beginning of April, but the rookie's season stats are right back to an All-Star caliber level. DeLauter owns a season .946 OPS with a 162 wRC+.

With DeLauter continuing to step into the batter's box with a solid plan and executing on it, there's no reason not to think that this on-base streak could reach historic highs at some point.
