Guardians lose to the Blue Jays

The Guardians have fallen 11-0 to the Blue Jays. It's the 14th time this season they've been shut out.

Austin Hedges takes the mound in Guardians-Blue Jays

It's always fun when a position player takes the mound to pitch, especially when he's effective.

Austin Hedges entered the game with Cleveland down 10-0, and actually recorded two outs on only five pitches. He gave a chuckle as he walked off the mound to a loud ovation from the crowd, which from the Guardians' side has had very little for which to cheer tonight.

Blue Jays crushing Guardians

Joey Cantillo's night is done, and it's one of the stranger final lines you'll ever see.

Cantillo threw 5⅓ innings and will be credited with nine hits allowed and nine runs — only four of them earned — along with six strikeouts.

It's 9-0 Blue Jays as Toronto keeps adding insurance runs.

Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease has been terrific, allowing only four hits with four strikeouts in six scoreless innings.

Guardians, Royals score

This game quickly unraveled on the Guardians and Joey Cantillo due to an error and monster home run that followed.

The Blue Jays tacked on another run in the third on a double by Myles Straw , and it's now 7-0.

Tonight's crowd also seems to be only around a 60-40 split between Guardians and Blue Jays fans.

Guardians defensive misplay leads to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home run

A defensive error involving the Guardians' two rookies up the middle led to a five-run inning and a 6-0 Blue Jays lead.

In the second inning, the Blue Jays loaded the bases with one out. George Springer grounded a ball to Angel Genao, playing shortstop. Genao started his motion to throw to second base to try to start an inning-ending double play, but Travis Bazzana wasn't yet in position. Genao either couldn't stop his motion or simply air-mailed the throw, and it sailed over Bazzana's head.

Instead of potentially ending the inning, the Blue Jays scored two runs and took a 3-0 lead. Replays showed that Bazzana's first step was directly to his right instead of in toward the back, which is why he wasn't at the base when Genao expected. But considering Bazzana wasn't there, Genao has to either not throw the ball or go to first and take one out.

In that way, it was a miscue by both Guardians rookies that contributed to the error.

A few pitches later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. really made it hurt with a towering, moonshot home run to left field, scoring three and putting Toronto up 6-0. Only one of those runs is earned and credited to Cantillo.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits RBI double off Joey Cantillo; Guardians, Blue Jays score

The Blue Jays didn't waste much time in attacking Guardians starter Joey Cantillo.

Brett Bateman and George Springer Jr., the first two hitters of the day, both swung at the first pitch. And with a runner on first, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drilled an RBI double off the wall in left-center field to put Toronto up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
