The Atlanta Hawks continued reshaping their backcourt on Monday, acquiring young guard Devin Carter from the Sacramento Kings. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Hawks are receiving Carter and a future second-round pick from Sacramento.

Taken 13th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft out of Providence, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Carter came into the league known for his defensive instincts on the perimeter, while continuing to refine his offensive game. Carter showed encouraging development during his second NBA season in Sacramento. Appearing in 38 games, the former first-round pick averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 41.4% from the field. The 2025-26 campaign marked a significant improvement from Carter's rookie season, when he averaged 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 36 games.
Atlanta's acquisition of Carter is the latest move in what has been an aggressive offseason focused on strengthening the team's guard rotation. The Hawks recently re-signed veteran C.J. McCollum , selected former Houston standout Kingston Flemings with the No. 8 overall pick in the NBA Draft, and return reigning Most Improved Player Nickeil Alexander-Walker after his breakout season.
Carter now joins a revamped backcourt that features a blend of veteran leadership and young talent as the Hawks continue building their roster for the 2026-27 season.The guard position was a point of need for the Hawks, so the move allows Atlanta to bolster its backcourt as they look to once again be among the top six seeds in the Eastern next season.
