Miami Heat ’s Bam Adebayo addressed Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, following a dangerous play that resulted in a game-ending injury for the veteran center. Adebayo suffered a back injury from Ball’s play , tripping Bam after grabbing his ankle in the first half of Tuesday’s 127-126 overtime loss in the Play-In Tournament.
Adebayo addressed Ball’s trip during his exit interview, per ClutchPoints’ Zachary Weinberger.
“I don’t know. I’ve always had great conversations with him. There’s never been any like bad blood between us,” Adebayo said. “Obviously, I was drafted in the same draft class as his brother. So, it’s always been good conversations. As far as the incident, I can’t tell you what goes through his mind. My thing is with the referees in the NBA. I feel like you should be able to review a hostile act, no matter how long the possession is.”
Adebayo says Ball has not reached out to him since Tuesday’s loss.
“At some point, I’ll see him again, we’ll have that conversation,” Adebayo added. “And move on.”
While Adebayo is looking forward the having a conversation with Ball over tripping him, his frustration with the officiating remains, considering the controversial play.
Bam Adebayo calls out officials over LaMelo Ball trip
Veteran head coach Erik Spoelstra addressed Hornets LaMelo Ball’s trip on Heat center Bam Adebayo, stating the guard should have been ejected for the play. Adebayo didn’t hold back on his take on the referees, calling them out for not taking the time to review a play in a win-or-go-home matchup of the Play-In Tournament.
“I think the officials handled it, I guess, by the rule book. I feel like there will be a change at some point because it doesn’t make sense that three or four plays can go by, and you can review a 3-point shot, but you can’t review a hostile act,” Adebayo said. “It’s one of those things where everybody’s gonna have their opinion on it. Nobody’s really gonna know the truth, but Melo, whether it was dirty or not. Obviously, everybody’s going to try to defend him or defend me.”
Either way, Adebayo is ready to move on at this point.
