Here's what Kirby Smart said about recent Georgia football arrests
Georgia football sophomore linebacker Chris Cole and freshman linebacker Darren Ikinnagbon were arrested on the night of Feb. 18 for reckless driving and speeding .
"They made a mistake, certainly going to pay the price for the mistake, certainly disappointed," Kirby Smart said ahead of the Bulldogs ' first spring practice Tuesday.
According to police reports, the pair were each driving 2025 Mercedes SUVs 105 miles per hour — 40 miles per hour over the speed limit — on the Outer 10 Loop in Athens. Both passed six or seven other vehicles on the road and failed to yield to officers' emergency equipment for roughly one mile.
Cole was charged with two misdemeanors, while Ikinnagbon was charged with three, including following too closely. Both posted separately on their social media pages their regrets for their actions the day after the arrests.
"Frustrated, disappointed," Smart said about the fact that this keeps happening.
"There's no two better kids on our team. Chris Cole is one of the highest character kids we've probably had in our program. He does it right academically, on and off the field. I can't speak highly enough about him."
