One of the more underrated and intriguing signings from what was a star-studded offseason, Grant Stuard has made it clear that he takes nothing for granted and is a player who has earned every ounce of football success he's experienced.
The final pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Stuard has used his brazenness and physicality to carve out a long-term special teams role, while being a strong depth linebacker. This is critical as the Los Angeles Rams needed to fill gaps at both positions this offseason, with their special teams being a massive point of concern.
That journey from being Mr. Irrelevant to now entering his sixth NFL season has built calluses for Stuard, a player the team considers its Tasmanian devil. On Wednesday, defensive coordinator Chris Shula spoke about Stuard and the energy he plays with.
"I was used to the long hair back when I was a linebackers coach when he was coming out of Houston . I evaluated him so I was really familiar with him," Shula said. "He's exactly the same player he was there. He's a Tasmanian devil, flying all around. I think one of his starts when he was in Indy, he made 18 tackles and he was just flying around the field. He just brings a great energy and great toughness. He's like that every single day. It's awesome to have him."
Stuard is a clear favorite of special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone, who coached him in Indianapolis during the 2022 season. He's set to be the player who helps the team avoid a consistent stream of failures from the unit, which was one of several issues that tanked the team's championship efforts in 2025.
