Eintracht beat Hamburger SV 3-1 on Sunday. Raphael Onyedika and Younes Ebnoutalib scored the decisive goals in the second half, while Niko Ilicevic made his senior debut.
Four changesAdi Hütter made four changes to his line-up from the DFB-Pokal meeting between the two teams in midweek. Lilian Brassier returned in defence after shaking off a knee problem, while Keita Kosugi, Noel Aseko and Younes Ebnoutalib were also recalled. Jeremiaha Maluze, Nnamdi Collins, Mario Götze and Jonathan Burkardt were the players to make way. Sixteen-year-old Niko Ilicevic was also named on the Eintracht bench for the first time. Double chance for EaglesHütter's men started well and had a first opportunity through a low shot from Can Uzun in the fifth minute. Sixty seconds later, Ebnoutalib was presented with a chance after a mistake by the HSV defence, but goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes was equal to it.
Deserved leadThe Eagles' fast start was rewarded on 10 minutes, when Uzun played a perfect pass from midfield into the penalty area to Farès Chaibi, whose square ball was turned into his own net by Warmed Omari as he attempted to clear in front of Ebnoutalib.
Quick replyHowever, the celebrations didn't last long at Deutsche Bank Park as the visitors were level again just four minutes later. Brassier cleared the ball straight to the feet of Albert Grönbaek, whose pass was tapped in by Terem Moffi from three metres. Robin Koch could have restored Eintracht's lead in stoppage time with a header, but Heuer Fernandes' save kept it 1-1 at half-time.
Back in front after the restartFrankfurt made the perfect start to the second half. Brassier's header from a corner was parried by Heuer Fernandes at the feet of Raphael Onyedika, who swept it home to make it 2-1 (47'). Ebnoutalib increases leadEintracht didn't let up after that and eventually made it 3-1 in the 69thminute. Again it came from a brilliant pass from Uzun, who won the ball in midfield before teeing up Ebnoutalib from six metres. Shortly after that, the HSV keeper diverted a shot from Chaibi onto the left post to prevent another Frankfurt goal.
Atubolu shinesThe visitors mounted a late charge and Noah Atubolu had to make good saves in quick succession to keep out substitutes Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit (88') and Otto Stange (89'). Omari also hit the bar with a header in the same passage of play.
Historic debut for IlicevicIlicevic came on for Uzun in the 90thminute and became the club's youngest debutant as well as the joint-youngest in Bundesliga history, as the Eagles celebrated a deserved victory at home to Hamburg.
