The Charlotte Hornets made significant changes this offseason, including the trade acquisition of veteran guard Dennis Schroder.
Schroder could be a solid backup point guard for the Hornets behind starting guard Coby White. In the 2025-26 season, Schroder averaged 10.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three.

"I always admired how hard he plays, how hard he competes, his ability defensively," Hornets head coach Charles Lee said . "Though he gives up size, there's a competitive, gritty spirit to him that doesn't back down at all. He's picking up full court, he's got active hands, and can create deflections and steals."
Schroder always brings energy and intensity on both ends of the floor, which will be pivotal for Charlotte off the bench.
"Offensively, he's just a blur... his ability to get to the paint," Lee added. "As good as our offense was last year, there were times we lacked the ability to break the paint, create more open shots, get to the free throw line, or get more layups. Dennis has shown that ability not only in the NBA, but also in international play. So I'm really excited that he's still playing right now at a high level."

Schroder's ability to get to the paint will lead to more finishes inside for the Hornets while also freeing up shooters when the defense collapses. He will also provide veteran leadership to a team with a wealth of young talent.

"His leadership that he will bring… he's not afraid to have tough conversations with players, but really just to motivate them all to get on the same page, to compete, and try to win a game. I love the addition. I think he's gonna be able to help some of our younger players as well with his leadership."
Lee seems very confident in his new guard to deliver a punch and be a solid piece on offense and defense, while also being a great leader in the locker room.
Although the Hornets retooled their roster this offseason by trading away All-Star guard LaMelo Ball and others, they still have a quality roster.
If Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel can play at a high level and the role players like Schroder have an impact, Charlotte could make it back to the Play-In Tournament for a second straight season.
