Defeating the Brooklyn Nets in the fourth and final preliminary game of the NBA Summer League earned the Houston Rockets a spot in the semifinals by claiming the No. 3 seed .
Houston was projected to finish near the bottom of the Summer League standings before it began, but they have beaten the odds and exceeded expectations. The uphill battle is not over as they will face the favorite of the tournament in the first round of the playoffs: the Memphis Grizzlies .

Houston has relied on its high basketball IQ, complemented by physicality and hustle. These qualities are promising for the upcoming regular season, as Ime Udoka's coaching strategy prioritizes them. Houston's performance thus far has been outstanding, and the reflection of Udoka's strategy will only encourage and give confidence to both Udoka and the team to be able to perform at the same elite level they have been displaying in the upcoming regular season.
Bruce Thornton has been the most impressive player for the Rockets . Through his leadership, defensive strength, and offensive efficiency, Thornton is showcasing that he deserves a role in the NBA regular season. His next matchup against the Grizzlies will be his toughest challenge yet, and Houston will need him to produce another impressive performance to lead them to victory.
The Grizzlies are the favorites to win the entire playoffs and are a -200 favorite to defeat the Rockets, which indicates around a 60% chance of victory. The spread is set at -5.5 , which suggests a competitive game with a small winning margin. The third overall pick, Cameron Boozer has been the headliner for Memphis. Memphis has the most loaded roster in the Summer League, alleviating pressure on Boozer by the likes of Cedric Coward and Karim López.
The Grizzlies have been dominant on both ends of the court, but their defense has been their biggest strength. This was displayed in their most recent game on July 16, when they beat the Atlanta Hawks in a 96-64 blowout win. They set an all-time record and held the Hawks to an absurd two points in the entire first quarter.

The matchup between the Grizzlies and the Rockets is projected to be a defensive battle, and the total for the game is currently set at over/under 186.5 points . The high-stakes matchup will take place on July 19, and only the winner will claim a spot in the finals. In their most difficult matchup yet, will Thornton be able to lead the Rockets to another upset?
