Real recognize real, as the saying goes – or in this case, Real Madrid (player) recognizes the Boston Celtics. In an interview touching on a number of aspects of rookie Celtics forward Hugo Gonzalez making the leap to the NBA with Boston after leaving his home in the EuroLeague, Gonzalez had high praise for both the teams he's played for.
"I think I've maybe said it before, that it's a little like the feeling I had when I was in Madrid," said the Spaniard (translation ours) on how he has felt since arriving to play for the Celtics fresh off the heels of winning a title with Real Madrid. "The Boston Celtics are more or less the same."
"You feel the weight of the history of the jersey, and you know you're representing more than an NBA franchise, which is the winningest franchise in history, right?" said the Madrid native.

Playing with his former club since he was just 13 years old, the move has not been as big a disruption as some might have thought, especially considering the two teams' rich, parallel history.
"I think that, besides feeling it as a privilege, feeling that I'm able to do what I want, which is play basketball, you also probably feel a bit of the responsibility that comes with the Celtics jersey," added Gonzalez in something of an understatement.
