🎥 Hugo Sánchez honoured at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario
Hugo Sánchez was honored by Pumas tonight as celebrations continued marking 50 years since his First Division debut.
"El Macho" attended the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, and before kickoff in the blue-and-gold side's match against Tigres on Matchday 14 of the Apertura 2026, the Pumas players formed a guard of honor to welcome him onto the pitch.
Once there, the "Pentapichichi" took center stage during the anthem of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, greeted the first-team squad, and received a puma decorated with Huichol art in recognition of his career.
A commemorative video featuring his finest moments as a Pumas player was also shown on the stadium screen.
Special touches
Among the tributes to Mexican soccer's greatest icon, Esteban Solari's players warmed up in special shirts featuring a silhouette of Hugo performing his iconic bicycle kick.
La Rebel also unfurled a tifo in the stands that read "Hugo Sánchez" in blue and gold.

The legend began on October 23, 1976, when an 18-year-old came on as a substitute on Matchday 7 against Tigres—the same opponent as tonight, but at the Estadio Universitario in Nuevo León.
