The Carolina Hurricanes scored five goals in Chicago on Saturday night without their top line playing. This fourth straight win came against a slumping Blackhawks team that lost two in a row. Mark Jankowski has now scored in three straight games, a feat he has never done in his 11-year career. The team outshot Chicago 39 to 26 and controlled the pace for most of the night.
Goaltender Brandon Bussi made 24 saves to secure the 5-2 victory at the United Center. He faced a hot start from the home crowd but settled down after the first period. The lineup remained unchanged for the fourth game in a row, showing that Rod Brind'Amour trusts his current group, according to Cardiac Cane . Even without the usual stars, the offense clicked from the first puck drop.

Jankowski Finds a Rhythm
In the closing minute of the opening period, Mark Jankowski scored on a breakaway to break the ice. Jesperi Kotkaniemi fed him a pass near the blue line, allowing him to bypass the goalie. The goal came with 56.2 seconds left in the frame. According to the Associated Press, this marks the first time Jankowski has scored in three consecutive games. He has been a steady presence, turning a quiet start into a scoring streak that gives the team confidence.
The fourth line maintained its hot streak for the entire game. They found open space when the defense collapsed on other players. This depth scoring is what makes a team dangerous over a long season. When the top line rests, the fourth line steps up to keep the lead safe.
A Second Period Explosion
The game turned into a rout in the middle frame with goals coming early and often. Sebastian Aho doubled the lead on a short-handed play just after two minutes. He waited for a broken stick on a Blackhawks defender before firing a wrist shot past the goalie. Less than 90 seconds later, Jackson Blake scored his first goal of the season. He tapped the puck in from the front of the net after a quick feed from Logan Stankoven.

Roman Kantserov cut the lead to two goals for Chicago with his first NHL goal. He intercepted a pass at the blue line and skated the other way to beat Bussi. The Blackhawks tried to rally, but Taylor Hall quickly restored the three-goal lead. After receiving a pass from Blake, Hall scored on a one-timer from the slot. All of this scoring happened in the opening six minutes of the second period.
Depth Players Shine Bright
Jackson Blake and Jordan Martinook each recorded a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. Blake's second point of the period set up Hall's one-timer. Martinook added a backhander five minutes into the third period to make it 5-1. This goal was his first of the season. Oliver Moore finished the scoring late for Chicago, making the final score 5-2. The Canes now have four wins in a row, and the defense is holding strong.
For the Blackhawks, Spencer Knight made 34 saves while Brandon Bussi stopped 24 shots. Chicago holds only one win from six games to begin their season. The loss drops them further in the standings as they struggle to find offense. The Hurricanes, however, are finding ways to win even when the game is tight. They outplayed the home team in every statistical category.

Why the Streak Matters
After two games, fans might have worried about the team's start. Those concerns have vanished after four straight wins. The lineup did not change once during this stretch, proving the coach's faith in his players. Rod Brind'Amour seems satisfied with the current situation. The team showed they can win on the road against a tough opponent. This surge pushes them into a comfortable spot early in the season.
The win proves that the Hurricanes do not need their top stars to score. The depth lines are producing goals and assists that keep the team ahead. When the top line rests, the fourth line keeps the pressure on. This balance is what makes a Stanley Cup champion dangerous.
