The Carolina Hurricanes now have two Stanley Cup titles, and Rod Brind'Amour has been a part of both championship teams.
The 55-year-old Brind'Amour has successfully steered the Hurricanes to the top of the NHL world on Sunday , with Carolina defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, to the tune of a 3-0 score.
With the victory, Brind'Amour also joined an extremely exclusive group of NHL figures who have won the Stanley Cup in two different times as a captain and head coach of the same team, as pointed out by Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.
"Toe Blake with Montreal , Hap Day with Toronto and Cooney Weiland with Boston are the only other people in NHL history to both captain and coach the same organization to a Stanley Cup. Pretty neat company for Rod Brind'Amour," LeBrun shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
Brind'Amour was the captain of the Carolina squad that defeated the Edmonton Oilers in seven games of the 2006 edition of the Stanley Cup Final. He scored three goals, including a game-winner in that series.
Two decades later, Brind'Amour, who is also a two-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner during his playing days, has the Hurricanes raising the Stanley Cup again.
Carolina has always been competitive since Brind'Amour took over as the team's head coach in 2018. The Hurricanes have not missed the playoffs under Brind'Amour's watch, but they fell short of expectations several times in the playoffs before getting the job done this time around.
