HUSKERS SOFTBALL Recap – Now Do It One More Time For It All: #2 NEBRASKA 5 – Penn State 1
Nebraska took one small step in their 2026 win total but one giant leap toward an outright Big 10 regular season softball title – and the #1 seed in the conference tournament.
In defeating Penn State 5-1 in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Huskers did clinch at least a share of the title, their first since 2014.
A win either today or tomorrow over Penn State or a UCLA victory over Oregon will give the Huskers the 2026 title outright.
But first things first as Nebraska won, not by battering the Nittany Lions, but rather just by keeping up steady pressure on the offensive side while Jordy Frahm just slowly sapped Penn State’s will by shutting the door after allowing them to small-ball Breanna Hanik around the bags in the bottom of the 1st to tie the Huskers 1-1.
Nebraska responded in the 2nd when Lauren Camenzind belted a two-out triple to right scoring Kacie Hoffman who reached by walk. Five half-innings then passed with only one total hit allowed until the Huskers small-balled one of their own home in the 5th. It was Lauren again, this time scoring on a Hannah Coor single after being bunted over to second base by Jordy. She finished 2-for-2 on the day with the run and the RBI.
It was also a multi-hit day for Coor with 2 RBI’s and for Jesse Farrell as well who had an opening inning double and a solo homer in the 6th.
Along with the complete game, Frahm struck out 7 batters and lowered her ERA to a still Big 10-leading 1.28.
Game two will begin at 1:30 instead of the customary 30 minute break between games of a doubleheader due to Big 10 Network scheduling. It will also be broadcast on the Husker Radio Network with nate Rohr on the call. Alexis jensen is the expected starter in Game 2.
