Idaho freshman standout Jackson Rasmussen to enter transfer portal

The Idaho Vandals had a massive turnaround during the 2025-26 season, improving upon just 14 wins last season to 21 wins and an NCAA tournament berth thanks to winning the Big Sky Conference tournament. A big reason for their successes was a roster upheaval and the arrival of forward Jackson Rasmussen, a Meridian, ID, native.

But after winning the Big Sky Freshman of the Year award after averaging 13.6 points, 4.7 rebounds on 48.6% shooting from the field, Rasmussen has entered the transfer portal, per Jeff Goodman.

Rasmussen committed to the Vandals as a three-star recruit, as he attended Utah Prep and was the seventh-ranked player in the state. He was a trusted piece right away at Idaho, starting all 35 games and scoring 54 points in his first three games.

Idaho entered the Big Sky tournament as the seven seed, yet promptly defeated Sacramento State, Montana State, Eastern Washington and Montana in five days to make their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1990. Rasmussen played a big role in the run, scoring 50 combined points in four games.

He struggled in their first round matchup against the No. 2 Houston Cougars, scoring just five points on two-of-eight shooting from the field. Despite that, he still established himself as one of the top freshman at the mid-major level and will be a target for power conferences in the portal.

Rasmussen will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
