- Indiana basketball represents USA with 98-64 win vs Canadian college team: highlights, stats
BLOOMINGTON — It's Christmas in July -- or something like that -- for Indiana basketball fans.
The Hoosiers defeated Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, 98-64, in an exhibition; with IU representing the USA and Brebeuf Canada in the FISU America Games.

While some college basketball teams are headed on foreign tours, the Hoosiers get to wear the stars and stripes in Peru for a trip that begins July 20. As a result, tonight's exhibition is something fans will get to see at Assembly Hall before they head south.
It was an opportunity to get a glimpse of coach Darian DeVries' second IU team. Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell finished with an impressive 16 points, while Prince-Alexander Moody and Trevor Manhertz both flashed promise among the freshmen. Next stop: Lima, Peru.

Comfortable in the end. We got the full bench experience in the last five minutes.

There will be an Insider and some player-by-player thoughts to come. Enjoy your evening.
Bryce Lindsay's feel adds to Indiana offense
4Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 78-53, 6:50 left.
A couple of times now, Lindsay has gotten his defender backpedaling, then taken the ball through traffic to the rim. Once in transition and once in the halfcourt.
His shot hasn't been as consistent from behind the arc. But the Villanova transfer has shown really good pace, patience and finishing when he's gotten the ball moving downhill, something Indiana certainly didn't have enough of last season.

IU just subbed all three freshmen plus Sisley and Ben Winker onto the floor. Might be the last we see of the starters tonight.
Indiana in control heading into the fourth
END OF 3Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 69-51.
Visitors made a couple tough 3s to tighten this one up slightly but that was easily IU's best quarter of the night. Locked in at both ends, turning defense into offense and injecting energy into the game.
As you can imagine, things have gone a little ragged as this game has worn on. There's a decidedly exhibition feel to the proceedings. Still, a good night so far for Sisley, Sherrell and Burton, in particular.

Ten (10) minutes to go.
Trent Sisley coming to the party
3Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 61-39, 3:41 left.
IU put a 15-4 run into the scoreboard before a quick transition 3 just now.
Trent Sisley's been Indiana's first man off the bench pretty consistently here, and he's rewarding his coach's faith. His activity and effort have earned him some tough points around the rim. He's got seven.
Sisley very much looks like the first option when one of Sherrell or Yigitoglu has to sit for any reason. It's easy to see why so far.
Halftime stats
Hot off the presses.
Halftime stats during exhibition game between IU basketball and College Jean-de-Brebeuf.
Hoosiers ahead at the half
HALFTIME:IU leads Brebeuf, 46-32.

Much better offensively than defensively. A smattering of observations:
-
Sherrell is further ahead with the offense than Yigitoglu, which probably isn't surprising given he'll be asked to do more. Sherrell leads IU with 14 points, on 5 of 7 shooting.
-
We don't have official stats but IU didn't shoot it particularly well. Manhertz hit two 3s, as did Sherrell. Arc was less kind elsewhere. Indiana shot just 5-of-18 from 3 as a team.
-
Rebounding is an instinct this team is going to have to sharpen.
-
There are good and capable passers on this team beyond just Markus Burton. Especially in transition, multiple Hoosiers had nice finds in that half. Makes defending and rebounding well even more important, to create those opportunities.
-
We're going to estimate about 2,500 people made it out tonight.
Aiden Sherrell pacing Hoosiers early
2Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 38-26, 2:40 left.
Aiden Sherrell's hit a couple 3s to push his team-high total to 12 points.
There are moments when he still looks like a center defensively, which makes sense given that's where he played last year. But the versatility in his offensive game is very much four material.
Indiana not rebounding particularly well
2Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 29-24, 7:22 left.
A lot of the Hoosiers' problems right now are rebounding-adjacent. A couple of easy putbacks here, some lost loose balls there. Tightening that up would probably grow this gap another 8-10 points and make the score reflect the way the game has felt: largely one-sided.

Buy Trevor Manhertz stock now
END OF 1Q:Indiana leads Brebeuf, 23-19.
Some sloppy stretches defensively, especially around the rim, giving Brebeuf too many easy points.
Offensively, Indiana is flowing a lot through the bigs, who have both rotated out once.
This is an observation informed by practice viewing, as well as his five early points here, but consider investing in some Trevor Manhertz stock. Physical development needed, but offense is smooth and there are tons of tools there. Maybe not for big minutes this season, but his upside is obvious.
Action at the basket early
First quarter:IU leads Brebeuf, 11-8, 4:41 left.

Indiana having success you'd imagine going through Yigitoglu in the post. Brebeuf getting some easier-than-expected looks at the basket thanks to back cuts. Just about any time IU makes the Canadian team run its stuff, Hoosiers get a stop.
Manhertz, Monden, Moody first off the bench for Indiana.
Format for tonight
Our friend Alex Bozich with Inside The Hall has an easy rundown of tonight's game format, since we're playing on international rules. Lanes are wider too. Tipoff shortly.
Starting lineups announced
Again, no live stats, so we had to wait for these the old-fashioned way. It's probably fair to assume Mustaf would've at least been in contention for a place if fit. Anyway, here we are:

G Markus Burton
G Bryce Lindsay
G Darren Harris
F Aiden Sherrell
C Samet Yigitoglu
Again, a last reminder that Yigitoglu can play tonight but not in Peru. So this is our one look at him in game action this summer.
No Jaeden Mustaf tonight
It appears the Georgia Tech transfer won't be available. He was limited in a recent practice we sat in on. IU apparently not taking any chances.
But there are some new light-show gadgets on the floor for introductions.
Hello from Assembly Hall, where soon, there will be basketball
Hello from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, where the Indiana Hoosi, err, Team USA will tipoff against Canada in about 15 minutes. We're still waiting on lineups, and we're not expecting live stats.

Needless to say, this is all a pretty laid-back affair, as Team USA goes through final preparations before Peru.
