Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever lost their season opener against the Dallas Wings on Saturday night, 107-104. Making the defeat more frustrating for fans was the fact that a former Indiana player played a big role in Dallas' win.
Odyssey Sims , who joined the Fever last season via a hardship contract after three consecutive seven-day deals, signed with the Wings on a one-year, veteran minimum deal in the 2026 offseason.
On Saturday, she showed the Fever what they were missing, as she exploded for 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. She also tallied two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Wings' victory.
Sims was one of three players to score at least 20 for Dallas, alongside Arike Ogunbowale (22) and Paige Bueckers (20).

Following the game, Fever fans expressed their disappointment that Indiana let Sims walk away during free agency, especially after what the veteran WNBA guard showed on Saturday.
"Fever should have kept Odyssey Sims, she's the perfect scoring backup PG for CC," a commenter wrote . Another one said , "Not signing with Odyssey Sims was a big, big mistake for Indy."
"So, why did we decide to sign Ty Harris instead of re-signing Odyssey Sims?" a fan asked .
A frustrated supporter added , "Can someone in the Fever FO explain why they passed on Odyssey Sims after the way she played in the playoffs for the Fever last season instead of signing Ty Harris & Walker-Kimbrough who couldn't smell the court while Odyssey dropped 20 revenge points on the Fever for the Wings?"
"I am not sure why we let Odyssey Sims go," a poster stated .
A sixth social media user shared , "We let Odyssey Sims go so that we could sign Ty Harris and have her play 4 mins with no impact. Great job Stephanie White and Fever FO."
Sims, who was drafted No. 2 overall in 2014 and became an All-Star in 2019, averaged 10.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 12 games for Indiana last season. Considering how well she played for the team, it's definitely surprising that Indiana didn't bring her back.
For what it's worth, though, Sims might have wanted to play for the Wings more because of her familiarity with the organization. She had two previous stints with the team and has family in the state since she's from Texas.
