The Indiana Fever (19-11) revealed unfortunate news about backup center Damiris Dantas after she had missed the past five games with a left knee ailment.
The Fever announced the 6-foot-4 veteran will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season after undergoing successful surgery on Monday to repair the torn meniscus in her left knee.
Dantas finished her second season with the Fever with averages of 3.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 8:12 playing time across 12 games.
Dantas was one of the players general manager Amber Cox elected to keep on the Fever roster instead of retaining rookie guard Justine Pissott when the Las Vegas Aces offered and signed the 2026 second-rounder to a standard player contract.
If there is a silver lining in this news, it is the Fever recently signed forward Michelle Onyiah to their second and final development contract spot. She could, at the very least, replace Dantas on the depth chart with 14 games remaining in the regular season.
Coincidentally, the Fever host Pissott and the Aces (21-9) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. CT on Amazon Prime Video.
