The LSU Tigers got Trey'Dez Green back from injury early , and it appears the other injured No. 7 recipient could be making his way back to the field soon.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports has reported that star Tigers linebacker Whit Weeks has made "good progress" since suffering a leg fracture against the Texas A&M Aggies on September 26. Weeks could potentially return to practice next week ahead of their matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide .
It has long been known that Weeks has had the game against the Crimson Tide circled as a return date. He has already missed a large chunk of this season and wants to be out there as the team prepares for the toughest stretch of the year.
This injury has been extra unfortunate as Weeks returned to college football for his senior year hoping to put on a show and rebuild some draft value after injuries derailed his junior campaign. The linebacker had reminded people of just why he received the No. 7 jersey over the first couple of weeks. There will be a ton of eyes on LSU over the next few weeks, so there is plenty of opportunity to make up for lost time.
Over the first four games he played, Weeks had racked up 23 tackles with 2.5 for a loss and a pass broken up. There hadn't really been any holes in his game up to this point. Per Pro Football Focus , he has just a 4.8% missed tackle rate, which was a massive improvement over his 17.1% rate last year.
He had a tough outing in coverage against the Ole Miss Rebels , but that was a game where Blake Baker's defensive scheme was getting beaten all over the field. He has allowed just a 86.3 NFL passer rating when targeted this year in total, which is an area in which he has improved each year.
The Tigers defense will be very glad to have him back, but the linebackers have done a great job of filling in the gap. TJ Dottery has remained a great addition to the team, while Davhon Keys has done well stepping up, especially against the run.
Keys had a 5.0% missed tackle rate with 43 tackles this year on top of two sacks and 4.0 total TFLs. Coverage is where LSU will improve with Weeks back in the lineup, as Keys has allowed a 114.6 passer rating when targeted this year. The Kentucky Wildcats targeted him and beat him in that game.
All eyes will be on the Wednesday injury report next week to see if he does get bumped up. This would be massive news for the Alabama game.
