Steven Adams stole the headlines earlier this year when he revealed his modest living space. Calling it modest might be pushing it, since his residence is a one-room apartment. To top it off, he used to sleep on a mattress on the floor. No bedframe needed.
Naturally, people continue to talk about it to this day. After all, it's rare to see somebody who has earned around $184 million before taxes not splurge even a bit on his abode. Even Adams' family was apparently baffled by some of his life decisions.
"After that photo, I got freaking messages from all my family, 'Yo, WTF are you doing?' … Yeah, I've got a bed now. Spoiled myself. I probably live the same as a lot of other single dudes. You know what I mean? It's just like, 'Just get a mattress, bro, and a TV with some Wi-Fi.' But yeah, I like living minimalist, you'd say," said Adams on the "Between Two Beers" podcast.
How long will Adams stay in his apartment?
To be fair to the Houston Rockets big man, when he posted the picture of his bedroom on Instagram that instantly went viral, it had only been months since he was traded to the squad.
In addition, he was on his third team in four years. So, Adams was probably preparing for the possibility of having to move to another town if the Rockets decide to ship him elsewhere. Of course, that hasn't happened yet, but with how their season ended, it wouldn't be surprising to see them shake up the roster in hopes of finding a way to keep up with the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs .
The 32-year-old center is likely longing to remain with the franchise for many more years. And it's not just because he has already invested in a bedframe to go along with his mattress, as he told the podcast hosts. The place probably doesn't hold sentimental value either. Simply put, he seems to be in a good spot in Houston.
Sure, the team may have exited the 2026 playoffs earlier than planned. But it has a core group of players that many other organizations can only aspire to have. It remains to be seen whether Kevin Durant will stay, but the chances are the aging superstar's partnership with the Rockets is all but over .
Even so, they still have Alperen Sengun , Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. to work with. For that reason and many others, Adams should definitely feel excited to continue suiting up for Space City.
Adams could be a coveted trade target
However, if the Rockets do opt to move on from Adams, at least a handful of squads should look to avail themselves of his services. He is still a strong rebounder, a rigid screen-setter and can play his role on both ends of the floor to a tee.
Beyond his production on the floor, Adams' value to an NBA franchise also lies in his intangibles and leadership. His teammates can also trust him to have their backs, and opponents have already learned the hard way not to mess with anyone on his team.
Only time will tell if Stevo stays put this summer. Another relocation means dealing with emotional devastation anew. On the bright side, if he gets traded, it wouldn't be difficult for him to find a new house, as he can easily find a one-bedroom apartment anywhere in the U.S.
