A.J. Brown Fantasy Prediction 2026:
A.J. Brown lands in New England with a better quarterback and a clearer path to targets than he has had in years.
The fantasy community has responded by pushing him into the second round as a borderline-elite option. That price assumes a version of Brown we have never actually seen. Fantasy managers should understand exactly what they are paying for in 2026.

Should You Draft A.J. Brown in Fantasy Football?
Brown's ADP is 20.6 in PFN's Free Fantasy Mock Draft Simulator . He checks in as WR9 in our consensus rankings, and he's projected for 15.58 fantasy points per game.
What are we doing with Brown coming off a down year in which he averaged 14.7 points per game and finished as the 10th-ranked wide receiver? That was his lowest mark during his time with the Eagles. This is a tough one because I undoubtedly see the path to a very high ceiling for Brown.
He's reunited with Mike Vrabel, who was his head coach in Tennessee. He's got Drake Maye, who is the best quarterback of his career. He's the clear No. 1 receiver in this offense, an offense that we think will have to throw more this year with a tougher schedule. We've seen Brown be an alpha and command a high target share. Why wouldn't he have his best season in 2026?

I've done some research on this, and typically, when we have wide receivers who are established top guys at their position, they don't post career-best seasons at age 29. I did a study on wide receivers who had at least 3 seasons of 16-plus fantasy points in their career prior to their age-29 season. How many of them posted career-best seasons at age 29? The answer was five: five ever, dating back to 2000. Those five are some of the best receivers we've ever seen play the game.
More importantly, all five of those receivers had a previous season of 20-plus points per game and just had an even better one at age 29. They had a proven, established ceiling of 20-plus points per game.
Brown is now 29 years old, and he has never once hit 18 points per game in a season. Do you know how many wide receivers who have never hit 18 points per game in a season with these criteria have then suddenly done it for the first time at age 29? The answer is zero.
If you're betting on Brown in the early part or middle of the second round, you're betting on a one-of-one outlier. He's being drafted at a spot where he has to be a historical outlier to justify his cost.

On the flip side, we saw signs of decline from Brown last season. According to Matt Harmon's Reception Perception, Brown graded out in the 54th percentile against man and the 16th percentile against zone. There could be an argument that maybe his knee was hurting him, that he was a little banged up.
We know the argument that maybe he's checked out, but we don't have any evidence of that. That is purely anecdotal, purely speculative. It could just be an age-29 wide receiver with a skill set that historically does not age well, starting to show signs of decline.
I don't think Brown is a massive bust. I don't think the bottom's going to fall out. I don't think he's 2022 Allen Robinson, where he's going to average 8 points per game and be droppable. But I think the people taking him in the middle of the second round are going to be a little disappointed.
Before he was traded to New England, his early best-ball ADP was in the middle of the third round. I thought that was a pretty fair price. At that cost, if he posts a 14-point-per-game season, then that's perfectly fine.

But in the middle of the second round, or even the front half of the second round, where I've seen him go at times, he has to post that 17-, 18-point-per-game season. I don't think he has that in him anymore. Brown is a straight-up fade for me this season at his current cost.

A.J. Brown's Week 1 Fantasy Outlook
Drake Maye was an unmitigated disaster in this matchup in the Super Bowl through three quarters (8-of-18 for 60 yards) before turning in a fourth quarter (19-of-25 for 235 yards, 2 TD, and 2 INT) that could end up impacting legacies as we look back at box scores and forget how they were accumulated.

We can have that discussion at the end of his career.
For now, we have to decide if he can have the answers to a test he failed the last time we saw him and give his new WR1 the type of team debut that we are hoping for.
I say yes.
The Super Bowl struggles happened, but it was also a fourth high-stress game in as many weeks for a QB who was dealing with vastly different expectations than when the season started against an elite defensive structure and with some roster limitations.
I think we can forgive him.
This time around, the Pats have had all offseason to scheme up a plan to beat the best defenses, a task that gets easier when you add one of the 5 to 10 most feared receivers in the league.

Brown was playing for a team that either he hated or hated him (or both) last season. One that was structured around the ground game as opposed to maximizing his strengths. You know what he did? He still had a stretch with 3 straight 100-yard games and remained highlighted on opposing scouting reports.
So excuse me for being excited about his potential in a better environment with the best passing QB of his career. Maye completed 30 passes in the opener last season, a sign that, looking back, we should have read as a team that had all of the faith in the world in its young QB. If he gets anywhere near that total, Brown is likely to give us a WR1 week, and even if the splash plays don't hit in a massive way in Seattle, I think we get enough breadcrumbs to confirm our overall optimism.
