Former Panthers quarterback Jack Plummer took a trip to Washington on Wednesday morning. He threw the ball during a workout for the NFC East contender. The Commanders are looking for help because injuries have piled up at their position.
A Second Chance in the UFL
Plummer did not hear his name called during the 2024 NFL Draft. The Panthers picked him up as an undrafted free agent instead. He spent the whole year on the practice squad before getting cut last year. He then went to the Orlando Storm in the United Football League. That league gave him a chance to show his true talent. Plummer ended up winning the 2026 UFL MVP Award. With 2,188 passing yards and 17 touchdowns thrown, he topped the league standings. Those numbers put him on the map for NFL teams again.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the former Panthers QB threw well. He said Plummer "could be a consideration down the line." The report also noted that Marcus Mariota is not going on injured reserve yet. Washington will continue using their four internal quarterbacks for the time being. Plummer has drawn interest over the past couple of months. But he remains without a team as of Wednesday. The workout was a good step, but the deal is not done.
Bryce Young Silences the Doubters
While Plummer looked for a new home, the Panthers were busy winning games. Carolina secured a dominant victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The final score was 32-26 at Bank of America Stadium. Bryce Young was the star of the show for the Panthers. He finished 29 of 41 passes, gaining 329 yards and scoring two touchdowns. His performance was one of his best of the season.
Robert Griffin III, a former NFL star, had a blunt reaction to Young's game. Griffin said the critics were wrong about Young's potential. Young played well even without two of his key wide receivers. He made accurate throws and took advantage of opportunities downfield. His ability to stay calm made the performance even more impressive. Griffin pointed to this production as proof that earlier doubts were premature. Young is proving he belongs among the top quarterbacks in the league.

The Architect Behind the Surge
Over the opening four weeks of the 2026 season, the offense has been humming. Although Young receives the praise, a silent mastermind also holds a primary role. That man is associate head coach Darrell Bevell. He was hired this offseason to help the transition into the play-calling role. Bevell worked with head coach Dave Canales during their time with the Seattle Seahawks. His impact on the Panthers has been significant.
Bevell's fingerprints are all over the team's offensive growth. He helped maximize the skills of tight end Darren Waller, who played for Miami last season. Bevell was the pass game coordinator there and knew how to get the most out of Waller. He also played a key role in Russell Wilson's rise to a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. Young has elevated his performance to a totally new tier during 2026 so far. Fans should not overlook the importance of Bevell's wisdom in this growth. The Panthers are lucky to have him working in the shadows.
The squad aims to maintain momentum as Week 5 arrives. The bye week is coming up soon for adjustments. If Young continues at this level, the league will have to rethink everything. Plummer might find a spot elsewhere, but the Panthers have their answer. The offense is dangerous, and the future looks bright in Charlotte.
