Jacksonville Jaguars shock the NFL draft by selecting Texas A&M TE
With the No. 56 pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Texas A&M tight end Nate Boerkircher on Friday night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Boerkircher started his collegiate career at Nebraska, where he spent four seasons as an elite blocking tight end for the Cornhuskers . He appeared in 39 games and made 17 starts, recording 19 catches for 219 yards and one touchdown. He entered the transfer portal as a graduate student at the conclusion of the 2024 campaign and decided to sign with the Aggies .
In his sole season in the Maroon and White, Boerkircher hauled in 19 receptions for 198 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner that gave Texas A&M a massive road victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish .
Boerkircher's selection in the second round of the NFL draft came as an unexpected, but pleasant surprise for Texas A&M. His body of work on film as a pass blocker and athleticism as a pass catcher make him one of the most versatile tight ends in this year's class. The Jaguars could have scored an underrated pickup if Boerkircher continues to develop at the next level.
Boerkircher notched a 6.17 prospect grade in the 2026 NFL Combine. His production score was 67 (16th among all tight ends) and his athleticism score was 73 (14th among all tight ends) for a total score of 71 (13th overall among all tight ends).
When evaluating the Aggie tight end, it's best to skip the stat sheet and just turn on the film. He has a taste for contact and flashes his quickness throughout his 2025 campaign with Texas A&M. Boerkircher's release and ability to turn his physicality to an elite level quickly are attributes that could carry him far with the Jaguars moving forward.
