Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Jaden Hicks spoke with reporters after practice on Wednesday. He discussed how playing with confidence in an elevated role will affect him this season.
"I'm just playing with confidence. That's my biggest thing in trying to get the defense down stuff like that, but definitely the confidence," said Hicks. "Definitely, each day is something to prove. You know, if not to the coaches, then to myself. You know, I'm just trying to get better each day."
During two preseason games, Hicks has tallied 2 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. He reflected on lessons from last season and on how to maintain confidence this upcoming season.
"I mean, in all aspects, you know, I felt felt like I was doing the right thing, but sometimes it wasn't, and sometimes the coaches would get on you and stuff like that, which they should, and just some of that confidence, you know, might have dipped." said Hicks "I think, just, understanding that you've got to keep your confidence. I think that's what it came down to."
Hicks played in all 17 games last season, starting in three, and finished with 42 total tackles and .5 sacks. He led the Chiefs with 3 interceptions as a rookie in 2024.
