Jadon Sancho could join West Ham United as he continues his search for a new club after leaving Manchester United.
The 26-year-old is still without a club since he became a free agent in June, and has recently snubbed an offer from La Liga outfit Getafe, amid ongoing interest from Saudi Arabia.
However, amid reports he has been offered to the East London club in recent weeks, there is a possibility that he could return to English football sooner than expected.
Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insiderthat a move to the London Stadium is a "real possibility" if Sancho is willing to drop into the Championship to reignite his career.
The winger's decision will ultimately be key to any move, while there is an acceptance he would have to take a significant wage cut, despite his previous lofty demands.
West Ham have been long-term admirers of Sancho, and while a move to the Championship would come as a major surprise, a deal is firmly on the cards in East London.
Could West Ham make a move for Jadon Sancho?
Football Insiderrevealed last month that there is still plenty of high-profile interest in Sancho as he seeks a return to football, with Premier League clubs still keen.
West Ham are now emerging as surprise contenders, particularly after his decision to snub an offer from Getafe, with no other offers believed to be on the table as things stand.
While a move to the Championship would not have been expected for Sancho, reports have claimed contact has been made, and the deal now cannot be ruled out.
"I must admit it's a surprise to see Jadon Sancho linked with a move to West Ham," Brown told Football Insider.
"They've been long-term admirers of his, but I don't think anybody would have expected him to drop down to the Championship, it looked more likely he would move abroad.
"But it's been months now since he left Man United and he still doesn't have a club, so beggars can't be choosers in that respect.
"I think there is a real possibility he could join West Ham, but obviously a lot of that will depend on the player and whether he is willing to drop into the Championship.
"Plus, there's no chance he's going to be offered anywhere near the wages he's been asking for, so he's going to have to take a pay cut.
"Is he prepared to do that? I'm not completely convinced, but he could surprise me, it depends on how much he wants to get back into the game at this point."
Premier League clubs eye Jadon Sancho months after Man United exit Aston Villa 'pull the plug' on talks to sign Jadon Sancho permanently - and this is why Why is Sancho still without a club?
Sancho's search for a new club after leaving Man United has been complicated, as he remains a free agent months after his contract at Old Trafford expired.
A number of clubs in the Premier League, the Middle East, Turkey, Germany and MLS have all been linked, but he has yet to reach an agreement with anybody.
This comes after Brown told Football Insiderduring the summer that Aston Villa pulled the plug on signing Sancho permanently due to concerns over his wage demands.
The same issue saw the winger miss out on a move to Chelsea following his loan spell at Stamford Bridge in the 2024-25 season, despite the Blues agreeing terms with Man United.
His demands are believed to be at a similar level to the £250,000 per week he was earning at Man United, while he has so far been unwilling to compromise on his package.
