The Jags and breakout tight end Brenton Strange have agreed to a new three-year, $48 million contract extension with $25 million guaranteed, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Strange emerged as one of the best young tight ends in football last season and was a critical part of the Jacksonville offense both as a pass-catcher and a run blocker. Now, Liam Coen and company have a quality starter at that spot for the future.
Strange is entering his fourth season and has gotten better every year in the league. Last season, he played just 12 games due to injury, but he still finished with 46 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns, all of which were career-highs.
If Strange can put together a full healthy season in 2026, he should be in for a career year. He has built even more chemistry with Trevor Lawrence in recent years and has become one of the favorite targets for the former No. 1 overall pick. Liam Coen will also be more comfortable in his second season calling plays in Jacksonville, and he could opt to feature Strange in the offense even more.

Strange will be sharing targets with a very intriguing group of receivers including Brian Thomas Jr. , Parker Washington , Jakobi Meyers and Travis Hunter . Hunter won't be playing offense full-time this season, but there are still plenty of mouths to feed in the passing game for Lawrence and Coen.
Strange will also be very important in a running game that lost Travis Etienne Jr. this season. The running game was the foundation of the Jags' breakout on the offensive side of the ball last season, and being able to run the ball with tight ends on the field is critical in Coen's offense.
If Strange keeps improving over the course of this contract, he will be an asset to a Jags team that is hoping to contend for Super Bowls in the near future.
