It looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers won't have a chance to land Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
The Pittsburgh Steelers already landed their No. 2 wide receiver by trading for Indianapolis Colt's Michael Pittman Jr. at the beginning stages of free agency. However, they won't have a chance to acquire another playmaker in Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. even if they wanted to.
According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN , Jaguars general manager James Gladstone claimed any reports that Thomas was being shopped as "fraudulent claims." He also said that Jacksonville hasn't even received an offer for Thomas.
Thomas, 23, would have certainly been an intriguing addition to the Steelers pass attack after racking up 135 catches for 1,989 yards and 12 touchdowns over his first two seasons in the NFL.
He still has two years and $4.9 million remaining on his rookie deal, too, so he wouldn't have contributed much to Pittsburgh's salary cap, either.
However, the Jaguars don't seem interested in dealing Thomas, despite him being a part of a very crowded wide receiver room that includes veteran Jakobi Meyers , rising star Parker Washington , and the No. 2 overall pick from a year ago in Travis Hunter .
That isn't to say the Steelers should be interested in giving up what would likely be at least a first-round pick and then some for Thomas after already trading for Pittman, but it certainly shuts down the hopes of anyone still dreaming of that scenario playing out.
A first-round pick (No. 24 overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft, Thomas played college football at LSU, where he recorded 127 catches for 1,897 yards and 24 touchdowns from 2021-23.
