The Utah Jazz have suffered a significant setback early in the NBA season, as star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is expected to miss six to eight weeks after suffering a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee.

According to ESPN, Jackson will be reevaluated in six weeks, leaving Utah without one of its most important players during a critical stretch of the season.
The injury represents a major blow for a Jazz organization looking to establish consistency and become more competitive in the Western Conference.
Jackson, a former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, has built his reputation as one of basketball's premier defensive players. His shot-blocking ability, versatility and offensive production make him a valuable presence on both ends of the floor.
Without Jackson, Utah faces the difficult challenge of replacing his defensive impact while maintaining enough offensive production to compete against talented Western Conference opponents.

The absence could place additional pressure on Lauri Markkanen, who will likely shoulder an even greater offensive responsibility.
Utah's younger players could also receive increased opportunities as the coaching staff adjusts its rotation.
However, replacing Jackson will require more than simply distributing his minutes among several players.
Jackson leaves major void for Jazz
His ability to protect the rim, defend multiple positions and stretch the floor gives Utah a combination of skills that few players can duplicate.
The biggest concern surrounding Jackson's injury is ensuring that he returns fully healthy rather than rushing back before his knee has completely recovered.

A six-to-eight-week absence could potentially keep him sidelined until December, depending on his rehabilitation progress.
For Utah, the coming weeks will provide an important opportunity to evaluate its roster depth and determine which players can step forward.
The Jazz already face a difficult road toward becoming a Western Conference contender, and losing Jackson only makes that challenge greater.
For now, Utah's priority must be protecting its star's long-term health while finding ways to remain competitive without him.
One thing is certain: Jackson's absence will test the Jazz's resilience early this season.
