Cometh the major, cometh Jason Day. The former World No. 1 was tired of everyone looking the same on the golf course. So he signed with Malbon Golf. The rest, as they say, is history. Except that it keeps repeating itself at every major.
After paying homage to birds of Augusta through his T-shirt at the Masters and celebrating the USA's 250th Independence Day through his stars and stripes shorts at Shinnecock Hills, Day arrived at Birkdale in full camo. On Monday, Day sported a relatively understated black-trousers-and-white-polo combination and disappointed excited fans to no end. The 13-time PGA Tour winner returned on Tuesday in his usual style.

Day wore a head-turning, head-to-toe green-and-white camouflage Malbon ensemble. While most contenders would heed the capricious weather and winds sweeping Royal Birkdale, Day and his apparel partner, Malbon Golf, seem insistent on catching eyeballs. Well, it's good to remember what Jason Day said two years ago after signing with the streetwear brand. "I knew I was going to step on a golf course, and no one else was going to look like me, which is great. Because that's what I wanted as a player, which was just like, 'OK, this is me and I'm going out to play golf.'" This isn't Day's first time courting attention in style, and he has landed in trouble. Not once, but twice.
He famously donned baggy blue pants and a loud sweater vest featuring "No. 313. Malbon Golf Championship" at the 2024 Masters. Augusta National officials asked him to remove the vest during the tournament. He played the rest of the round without it, but guess what?
Since Day signed with Malbon Golf, the search volume for that brand almost tripled. In fact, it peaked at… yes, you guessed right, during the 2024 Masters. You might think Augusta would be more lenient with the former World No. 1. Day and his apparel sponsor probably thought the same. But not quite how it went at the Masters this year.

The bird-themed outfit—of which there were a couple of versions, depending on how loud you want to go—was banned by Augusta National. Quite unfortunate when you think the official name for the vest was "Birds of Georgia Vest." Day posed for a few pictures before the tournament wearing a full bird-printed hoodie, which was rejected by the officials as reported by Sports Illustrated.
It's important to note one thing here. Jason Day, despite his eccentric outfits, has never argued with officials about letting him wear what he wants. In fact, quite the contrary. The Australian pro said while it was unfortunate that he wasn't allowed to wear the Malbon vest, Augusta National is a place where you accept rules without any protest. Because the tournament is bigger than your fashion choice.
His eccentric taste was also visible at this year's PGA Championship, as fans spotted him wearing baggy, vintage-style shorts during practice rounds. Speaking of fans, Day's latest fashion statement invited a myriad of reactions.
Fans divided over Day's outfit at the Open Championship
The obvious theme of "hunting" has clearly caught fans' attention, with many flocking to social media to joke about Jason Day blending into his surroundings.

"I don't see what you did there," one user wrote, playing on the camouflage theme by pretending they couldn't spot him.
While some fans saw the funny side, others questioned whether Day's fashion choices reflected a lack of competitive edge.
"It seems like he gave up seriously contending years ago," a user wrote. "Now just showing up wearing lifestyle clothing that gets clicks and cashing sponsor checks."
The criticism comes amid a lengthy major championship drought. Day hasn't won a major since capturing the 2015 PGA Championship, although he did record a T-8 finish at the 2025 Masters. Notably, his increasingly unconventional wardrobe has become a regular talking point since joining Malbon Golf in early 2024.

"At least if he misses the fairway, nobody will find him," another user wrote, taking another playful jab at the Australian's camouflage look.
"Great for a safari, but for golf, I'll pass," another fan wrote, preferring traditional golf attire over Day's latest experiment. Some fans outright refused to embrace his style, claiming no amount of money could convince them.
"I don't care how much they're paying him. That's embarrassing," a user wrote. Besides the reactions, Day must also contend with the demanding conditions at Royal Birkdale. A strong field featuring Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and several other major champions stands in his way. Whether or not his outfit wins over fans, the former world No. 1 will hope his golf does the talking this week.
