Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce has rubbished the idea of the Minnesota Vikings being legitimate contenders.
After playing six games, the Vikings are the only team in the NFL who have not lost a game. Their elite defence is what has propelled them to a splendid record.
With Brian Flores as defensive coordinator, the Vikings have the NFL's best defensive unit, but their offence has been questionable and at times poor.
This has led to many analysts not picking them as a contender for the Super Bowl and Jason Kelce just joined the list.
Jason Kelce believes Minnesota Vikings' offensive troubles will get exposed
The Vikings are the leading defensive unit in the NFL, conceding just 12.3 points. In their six games, they have recorded a total of 21 sacks, which shows how dominant they have been on the secondary.
While their defence has stood out, the Vikings' offence has been the opposite and is ranked 24th in the NFL. Quarterback Kyler Murray has played five games and thrown for only 812 yards. They have scored just 10 touchdowns, which ranks 31st in the league.
Jason Kelce believes this level of lopsided play will lead to the Vikings dropping games against big teams.
"I think the Vikings are incredible, what Brian Flores is doing is unreal, the fact that they are undefeated like I love what they're doing. There ain't no chance I'm buying the Vikings until they get more consistent and better play from the offence. Eventually they're going to play good teams; they're going to force them to be a productive offence. I have not seen that yet to date for Minnesota," said Jason Kelce on the New Heights podcast.
The common consensus has been that the Vikings will struggle if they fail to buckle up on offence come playoff time. Murray has not been a consistent performer, and with him leading the way, the Vikings are definitely taking a huge risk.
"If you're going to be a legitimate contender in this league, you got to be playing on both sides of the ball come the playoffs. For how unreal they are on defence, that offence is going to hold them back when they play the Bills, they play you guys (Kansas City Chiefs) it's going to be a problem. Especially when you're playing really good quarterbacks," Kelce added.
There could be an argument that the schedule has been kind to the Vikings so far. Their only meeting against top QBs came in the first two games of the season. While they conceded 22 points to the Green Bay Packers, the Vikings limited the Chicago Bears offence that had scored 59 points in Week 1 to just 3 points when they faced off.
With games against the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and the New England Patriots, the Vikings will be tested in their upcoming games. While it is expected that their defence stands out, the offence will also have to start delivering if they are to be taken seriously in the NFC.
