All of the mockery he was receiving regarding his former No. 5 Tigers jersey started to evaporate, as Baton Rouge quickly became embroiled in another controversy. During ESPN's first College GameDay episode of the season, a camera caught a young LSU football fan in a No. 5 jersey holding up a sign that taunted Daniels. "Jayden, don't sue me I'm only 7," it read.
The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, only the third in program history, issued a cease-and-desist letter to LSU demanding that the school stop using his name, image and likeness after the team agreed to let cornerback DJ Pickett wear No. 5. Daniels believes the program is disrespecting his contributions to the Tigers, but a chunk of the fan base thinks he is being petty. These type of fractures usually mend over time.
There are still plenty of barbs to be flung before that reconciliation period happens, though. Fortunately, both LSU and Daniels have other pressing matters to tend to at the moment.
