It could be that the New York Yankees are counting down their days with infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. In the meantime, he remains in pinstripes as the Bronx Bombers took on the Detroit Tigers on Monday in the first game of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.
However, Chisholm had to leave the game early after colliding with teammate and Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez , per Jomboy Media. In the top of the 4th inning, with New York trailing 7-0, Tigers' infielder Hao-Yu Lee hit a pop-up towards second base.
Then, the ball began to drift into right field, and Chisholm started to back up to position himself to catch the ball. Unbeknownst to him, Domínguez was charging after the ball.
Ultimately, Chisholm didn't see Domínguez, and they collided. Chisholm was knocked to the ground as Domínguez managed to stay upright and catch the ball.
The trainers had to tend to Chisholm, and he came out of the game.
In the end, Chisholm finished the game 0-for-1.
He was coming off an ejection on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox . Ultimately, Chisholm was arguing with the home plate umpire over a strike three call. The Yankees went on to lose 5-4.
Currently, Chisholm is batting .233 with 63 hits, 12 home runs, and 33 RBIs. Additionally, he has scored 42 runs and stolen 24 bases. Thus far, his season has been defined by inconsistency at the plate but solid on the basepaths.
Chisholm is set to become a free agent at season's end . Lately, there has been a surge of trade rumors.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 48-35 and are one game behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Eastern Division.
