The Miami Dolphins were back on the practice field at their Baptist Health Training Complex on Monday after a day off, as they prepare for a joint session and a preseason meeting with the Washington Commanders later in the week.
Prior to Monday's session, head coach Jeff Hafley addressed the media, and among the several topics he discussed was the performance of cornerback Ethan Bonner , and Hafley seemed to be impressed by what he's seen over the first two weeks.
"Bonner's doing good," Hafley said. "Very consistent. Very quiet. Very professional. You guys have seen it. He's made a lot of plays, and it's not just here or there. He's just really consistent right now. He's a guy that I can't wait to see line up in a one-on-one against another color jersey on third down, covering another guy. I'm very pleased with Bonner right now."
Bonner, 26, played at Stanford from 2018-22 before the Dolphins signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023. After appearing in just seven games and playing 27 defensive snaps over his first two seasons, he was a staple on special teams last year, playing 70% of the snaps in the third phase in 14 games.
With so many injuries at the position, Bonner will have a chance to prove himself this week against the Commanders in both the joint session and the preseason bout. If he performs the way he has against Miami's offense so far, he could earn a role in the defensive rotation once the regular season starts.
