The Cincinnati Bengals entered the 2026 season with plenty of questions surrounding a team that had struggled to find consistency on both sides of the ball in recent years.
Two weeks into the season, however, Cincinnati has provided plenty of answers.

The Bengals are 2-0 after opening the season with a 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before traveling to Houston and dominating the Texans 20-6. While Joe Burrow and the offense have done enough to win, it has been the defense that has turned the most heads.
That strong start has caught the attention of NFL analysts, including ESPN's Jeff Saturday.
Saturday believes Cincinnati has emerged as the biggest threat to the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC, pointing to the Bengals' performance on both sides of the ball as a major reason for his belief.
The former NFL center has been particularly impressed with the defense, which he views as one of the best units in the league . Cincinnati has forced turnovers, created pressure and played with a physicality that has allowed the team to control games despite the offense not always playing at its highest level.

The Bengals forced four fumbles in their Week 1 victory over Tampa Bay before holding Houston to just six points in Week 2.
Saturday also highlighted the progress of Cincinnati's offensive line, an area that has received significant criticism throughout Burrow's career. He noted that the group has given Burrow more opportunities to operate while also acknowledging that the quarterback's ability to hold onto the football can sometimes contribute to pressure.
One player Saturday specifically praised was right tackle Amarius Mims . Saturday has been impressed with Mims' play on the right side of the offensive line and believes his development gives Cincinnati another important piece up front.
Mims' emergence is significant for an offense that already features Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and running back Chase Brown . Saturday also pointed to Brown's play and the talent Cincinnati has at wide receiver as reasons to believe the offense can continue to complement the defense.

Ultimately, though, Saturday's biggest takeaway from Cincinnati has been the defense.
He believes the additions Dexter Lawrence and Boye Mafe have helped give the unit the physical presence necessary to compete with the best teams in the NFL.
Through two weeks, Cincinnati has given analysts plenty to discuss. Saturday now sees the Bengals as a legitimate threat to the AFC's established powers, with the defense potentially serving as the difference-maker that allows Cincinnati to make a deeper run this season.
