The New York Jets ' rough start to the 2026 season just went from bad to worse. Following a deflating Sunday afternoon loss to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, the team is now dealing with a devastating roster blow that sidelines a key piece for the remainder of the season.
Jets' Braiden McGregor suffers season-ending pectoral injury
During the second half of the 23-12 defeat, former Michigan standout edge rusher Braiden McGregor exited the game with a severe chest injury. The subsequent medical update has delivered a season-altering reality check to New York's defensive rotation.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, tests confirmed that McGregor suffered a torn pectoral muscle and has officially been ruled out for the rest of the 2026 campaign.
McGregor, 25, was in his third NFL season. He signed with New York as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan in May 2024 on a three-year, $2.85 million contract that runs through 2026. He played at Michigan from 2020 to 2023 and was part of the Wolverines' 2023 national championship team.
Before the injury, McGregor served as a rotational edge rusher and special teams contributor for New York. He entered Week 4 playing 24.1 percent of New York's defensive snaps. Right before he left Sunday's game, he made a solo tackle on Bears running back D'Andre Swift after a 12-yard catch.
However, this is not the first time he has faced an injury setback. Over his career, he has missed time due to a shoulder injury during his 2024 rookie year and an ankle injury late in the 2025 season.
Alongside McGregor, edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare was already inactive Sunday with a knee injury. He was a surprise addition to the injury report. After limited practice during the week, he was ruled inactive just 90 minutes before kickoff.
They entered Week 4 boasting the NFL's seventh-ranked run defense, allowing just 87.3 yards per game. However, Chicago completely changed the scenario, running 89 plays to New York's 32 and piling up a massive 492 yards of total offense. Bears running back Kyle Monangai led the charge, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
Head coach Aaron Glenn pointed directly to the lopsided snap count after the game, saying , "We have to do a better job of complementing each other." With the loss, the Jets dropped to 1-3 and have now dropped three straight since their season-opening win at Tennessee.
