The New York Jets brought in two quarterbacks for a workout on Tuesday. The team looked at Will Levis and Jack Plummer to fill a specific need. According to Gang Green Nation , both players are only being considered for a spot on the practice squad. This move makes sense for a team that already has its main starters set. The Jets want depth, not a new leader for the first team.
Will Levis was a second round pick by the Titans back in 2023. He did not play a single down in 2025 before the Titans waived him on cutdown day. Yahoo Sports reports that Levis is now 5-16 as a starter in his career. After the preseason concluded, the Titans released him. Head coach Aaron Glenn has high hopes for the young man. Glenn said the 22-year-old Clemson product serves as our backup quarterback and will do a good job. That quote shows the team sees him as a solid option for the bench.
Jack Plummer brings a different story to the table. In 2024, the Carolina Panthers signed him as an undrafted free agent. During the 2024 season, Plummer remained on the Panthers' practice squad. He did not get much time on the field there. But he found success in the United Football League last year. According to reports, Plummer earned UFL MVP honors in 2026 by topping the league in passing yards. He played for the Orlando Storm during that run. Now 26, he wants to prove he belongs in the NFL again.
The Jets are looking for someone who can step in if things go wrong. Plummer's MVP status in the UFL shows he can handle pressure. Gang Green Nation notes that the team worked out both Levis and Plummer today. They want to see how their arms and minds work in a Jets system. It is a low-risk move for the franchise. They do not need to sign either player right now. They just need to know they have options if a starter gets hurt.
The Jets have a clear plan for their quarterback room. They are not looking to start a new guy this season. The goal is to find a reliable third option. Levis has the draft pedigree. The second round's first selection in 2023 was used to pick him. Plummer has the recent accolades. He proved he can throw well in a professional league. Both men fit the profile of a practice squad player.
This workout is about preparation. The team needs to know who can learn the playbook fast. If the Jets sign either of the two, it would be for a spot on the practice squad. That is the only path forward for these players. The numbers show Levis has struggled in the NFL. But his recent release suggests the Titans are done with him. Plummer is a fresh face with a big trophy. The Jets will watch closely. They need a safety net. The NFL is hard. You never know when you need a backup. This move shows the front office is thinking ahead.
