Brady Cook will try to stop the Patriots from clinching the AFC East .
Jets coach Aaron Glenn named Cook the starting quarterback for New York’s Week 17 game against New England at MetLife Stadium.
Sunday will mark the third straight start for Cook.
The announcement comes after the Jets were blown out by the New Orleans Saints , 29-6, in Week 16.
The game was a disaster for Cook and the Jets offense. The quarterback went 22-of-35 for 188 yards and interception. Cook was also sacked a whopping eight times.
Despite the outcome, Glenn still thought Cook did some good things in the loss.
“There are some things in that game that if you go back and watch the beginning, I think he was doing a really good job,” Glenn told reporters . “As the game progressed, I will say this: Between Brady making some mistakes, between the protection of the O-line, and between some of the concepts we had for him, all of our hands were involved in some of the mistakes that happened in the game. But I thought he did a really good job at the beginning of the game and managing it the right way.”
New York’s quarterback situation hasn’t been anything to write home about this season. Cook is the Jets’ third QB to play this year.
The 3-12 Jets don’t have much to play for going into the final two weeks of the season. But they can make it harder for their rival Patriots to clinch their first AFC East title since 2019.
