Trayce Thompson ’s sacrifice fly moved Worcester ahead of Buffalo in the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday night.

On the mound, meanwhile, starting pitcher Connelly Early allowed two earned runs and struck out seven in five innings of action to earn his first season win. Alex Hoppe then fanned two in a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save.
It didn’t take long for either offense to engage, as Michael Stefanic drove in Jonatan Clase to help the Bisons move ahead at the top of the first inning. The lead was short-lived, though, as Nick Sogard evened the score at 1-1 on Kristian Campbell ’s groundout in the bottom half.
But the fun wasn’t over, as Riley Tirotta countered with his 11th-season blast at the top of the second inning before Nathan Hickey evened the score at 2-2 with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Sogard recorded three of Worcester’s nine combined hits, while Garcia was next with two. Nate Eaton (one), Mikey Romero (one), Chadwick Tromp , and Thompson (one) posted the remaining hits.
The Red Sox finished 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position, while Buffalo went 0-for-4. Both teams also left 16 combined runners on base.
And one of those moments occurred at the bottom of the fifth inning, as Worcester earned a bases-loaded opportunity with one out in a tie game. It wasn’t for much longer, though, as Thompson lifted a fly ball to left field that allowed Campbell to score the go-ahead run.
Worcester and Buffalo will compete in the fifth game of the series against each other on Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
