After a slow start to the season , the Philadelphia Phillies are beginning to turn things around. They are currently 6-4. Given their roster, they are likely playoff contenders.
However, former Philadelphia player turned analyst Jimmy Rollins foresees something greater on the horizon, per TNT Sports. Rollins has the city of brotherly love going all the way to the World Series.
While many are anticipating that the Los Angeles Dodgers are a lock to win their third consecutive title , Rollins is not jumping on the bandwagon.
"I know it's an easy pick to say the Dodgers and a 3-peat," Rollins said. "I'm going with the Phillies. We were a couple of baserunning plays away from advancing. Phillies-Yankees matchup, Phillies taking it all.
Ultimately, Rollins is looking for a rematch of the 2009 World Series between Philadelphia and the Yankees. In that series, the Yankees won in six games. However, Rollins secured a game-winning double during Game 4. The year before, they won the World Series in five games over the Tampa Bay Rays . During the series, Rollins batted .227.
That was the last time they won the World Series.
Last year, Philadelphia came up short against the Dodgers in the NLDS in four games.
Altogether, Rollins played 14 seasons in Philadelphia from 2000 to 2014. Afterward, he played with the Dodgers in 2015 and closed out his career with the Chicago White Sox in 2016. In 2007, Rollins was named the National League MVP and was a three-time MLB All-Star.
Over the course of his career, Rollins achieved a career batting average of .264 with 2,455 hits, 231 home runs, and 936 RBIs.
