JJ Buchanan on Michigan offense: 'We have all the potential in the world'

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --While much of the Michigan football team is fully embroiled in spring ball, learning something new, or learning from a new personality, there's only one player on the whole team who might be in a different locale, but is learning from all of the same people as he was before.

Wide receiver JJ Buchanan followed Kyle Whittingham from Utah to Michigan , but he's also playing under the same offensive coordinator in Jason Beck, and the same receivers coach in Micah Simon, as he was last year in Salt Lake City. As the sole offensive transfer from the Utes , Buchanan is the only player on the entire Wolverines team who has the same head coach, coordinator, and position coach from a year ago.

Honing in on Beck, who has gotten a ton of rightful accolades -- he's had the No. 4 offense in the country the past two years, with two different teams -- Buchanan believes that the offense in Ann Arbor is about to skyrocket, knowing not only Beck's capability, but also what he inherits with all of his newfound talent.

"I think we have all the potential in the world. I think this can be a really special team," Buchanan said. "We got all the guys. We got the scheme and Coach Beck, got the new head coach and Coach Whitt. I just, I have all the belief in this team. And I believe that Michigan will be, we will be at the top again at the end of the season."

Buchanan had to make the decision to move from one school to the other, and for him, to follow Whittingham (who he says 'is special'), as well as Beck, was something of a no-brainer.

Whittingham had detailed that his intention with his coordinators was to have schemes that were easy for the players to pick up so that they could play fast. And Buchanan shared that there's a lot to like in that regard as far as what Beck has with his offense.

"Just the way that, first of all, the system he uses, the signaling, I think it's very player-friendly," Buchanan said. "I did hand signals in high school. So it's something that I was accustomed to. And I feel like they make it super simple. You don't think a lot of options, a lot of different things you can do within a certain play. So I just, I really like how I could be outside, I could be inside. I could be in-line from time to time. But I just think the diversity that his offense is able to use is just very appealing to me."

Spring ball will continue for a few more weeks, with the annual spring game set for April 18 at The Big House.
