The main event at UFC 328 has left fans and pundits split over whether it lived up to expectations.
Khamzat Chimaev’s first title defence headlined the card at the Prudential Center in Newark. Sean Strickland pulled off a surprise result, taking Chimaev’s belt to become a two-time middleweight champion.
The five-round battle certainly delivered in terms of drama, but not everyone shared Rogan’s high praise for it. The familiar commentary team of Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik were in the booth for Saturday night’s event.
While the play-by-play duties haven’t changed much over the years, fans have grown increasingly critical of the commentary. This time, it was Rogan’s take on the main event that caught their attention.

Rogan has been around long enough to have seen some of the division’s best battles. Still, many were surprised to hear him place Chimaev vs Strickland among those classics.
“The hyperbole from Rogan needs to chill. Calling that one of the best middleweight title fights of all time is a disrespect to some of the greatness we’ve seen out of the division in the past.”
“Shocked he said that. Still confused.”
“I can think of 15 better from the last 3 years alone.”
“Joe Rogan and most of the commentary teams just say anything.”
“They just say anything!”
“Joe Rogan is the reason the term GOAT has lost all meaning. Guy has a new GOAT every fight night.”
“Watch Israel Adesanya vs Kelvin Gastelum.”
“Only jabs and occasional right hands. No variety or intent to damage. There’s not really a rightful winner and it was a boring fight.”
“UFC commentary is nothing but hyperbole. Everyone is a ‘killer, savage and one of the best of all time’.”
“Insane take.”
The fight between Strickland and Chimaev didn’t do enough to win either man a $100k bonus for Fight of The Night honours.
That prize went instead to Joshua Van’s title defence against Tatsuro Taira, who secured a controversial TKO stoppage in round five.
