Joey Porter Jr. was forced to watch on as the Dallas Cowboys dropped to 3-5 on the 2026 NFL season, falling to Gardner Minshew and the Arizona Cardinals 33-30 in overtime. Now, the Cowboys will hit the road for an AFC matchup, taking on Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts.
Porter Jr. has become one of the bright spots on a rather subpar Dallas defense, at least when he plays. Through his first three games, he already ranked second on the team in pass deflections with three.
But before he was traded to Dallas, Porter Jr. missed the first three games of the season with the Pittsburgh Steelers with a back issue. But the injury notably came during a standoff with the Steelers over a new contract.

Since joining Dallas before Week 4, Porter Jr. has played in four games for the Cowboys, missing the Week 5 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of an ankle injury. And while he remained on the injury report leading up to Week 7, he was removed ahead of the Cowboys' Week 8 loss to the Cardinals.
But late in the second quarter against Arizona, Porter Jr. went down with an ankle injury after a defensive pass interference, forcing him straight to the sideline. The cornerback was later ruled out for the rest of the match, and Mindshew, the Cardinals' backup QB, was able to tear apart the Dallas secondary.
After the loss to Arizona, Porter Jr. spoke to the media, addressing his ankle injury. The Cowboys star noted it has been a problem since his Dallas debut in Week 5 against the Houston Texans, admitting he can't move his ankle correctly as well.
"It's been going on since I got here in the first game against Houston," Porter Jr. said." It's very frustrating. Today, I just wasn't on a good leg. It's very frustrating to not be able to move how I want to."
Awaiting the status of Porter Jr., the Cowboys will face the Colts in Week 8 next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
