John Harbaugh has put his New York Giants contract on hold as negotiations continue over a key issue: how much control general manager Joe Schoen will retain.
John Harbaugh had reportedly agreed in principle earlier this week to become the New York Giants' new head coach, but the deal still hasn't been finalised.
Harbaugh, who spent 16 years in charge of the Baltimore Ravens , is looking for assurances that he'll have a major say in football decisions once he takes over in New York.

The delay appears to be tied to discussions about the New York Giants' front office setup. ESPN's Adam Schefter said the sticking points aren't about salary, but the specific language outlining Harbaugh's role in football operations.
John Harbaugh is believed to want a level of influence similar to what he had in Baltimore . Reports suggest he's seeking clear terms around GM Joe Schoen's responsibilities before signing on.
"Several sources told the Daily News during the Giants' courtship that they expected Harbaugh to either want Schoen gone or to reduce his power in the Giants' new structure. So this should be no surprise to anyone."
His demands could lead to a restructuring of the Giants' power dynamics, giving the head coach a bigger voice in key decisions.
That prospect has reportedly caused some concern among existing staff, who are unsure how far the changes might go.
The New York Giants had been expected to announce John Harbaugh's hiring early next week, but the timeline may now depend on whether the two sides can come to an agreement.
While Harbaugh's arrival is seen as a major step forward for the franchise, his push for more authority has added a layer of complexity to the process.
In addition to seeking more input on roster moves, Harbaugh has also asked for the ability to make changes across several departments, including training, public relations, and video operations — areas that have remained largely unchanged through previous coaching changes.
For now, the Giants' ownership is weighing its options. The final decision on Joe Schoen's role could ultimately determine whether Harbaugh's appointment goes ahead as planned.
