The Sooners won 51-0. Mateer tossed three touchdown passes in the contest. Oklahoma is now 1-0 on the year.
Oklahoma posted more than 400 yards of offense, in what was truly a dominating performance. The Sooners, led by Mateer, made a powerful statement that they are a force this year in the SEC.
"Good start for our guys," Oklahoma head football coach Brent Venables said, per News 9. "Proud of our guys, our coaches, our players. Scored half a hundred and got a shutout. There's plenty of things we gotta clean up."
Venables was pleased with Mateer, and how he played on Friday.
"Did a lot of really good things," Venables said.
Despite the big win, the Oklahoma head coach is trying to keep his guys grounded. Venables still sees a lot of room for growth.
"Certainly not sitting here beating our chest, but saw a lot of really positive things," Venables said. "Thought we were physical, thought we were prepared, really thought our offense was incredibly efficient."
Venables wants Oklahoma to improve on their tackling. The Sooners forced two turnovers in the game, but did also lose a fumble.
Oklahoma football is in action next against Michigan , in a key non conference game. That contest is on September 12.
